What we do

Our services

Micro-suction ear wax removal

Gentle, precise and mostly completed in a single visit. No water is sprayed into the ear, so it is suitable after ear surgery or with a perforated eardrum. If softening is needed, we recommend EAROL Olive Oil Spray.

What to expect

How microsuction works

1

Prepare

Don’t push cotton buds or fingers into the ear. Softening drops or olive oil before your visit helps, but isn’t essential: in many cases wax can be removed anyway.

2

Examine

Using a powerful operating microscope and bright light, your practitioner can see exactly what is happening inside your ear.

3

Clear

A medical suction pump with a 2 mm wand gently removes the wax. On average, both ears take 5–10 minutes.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why microsuction rather than syringing?

Syringing can damage the eardrum and sometimes pushes wax further in. With microsuction the ear canal stays visible throughout and no water is used. It is generally regarded by medical professionals as the preferred technique.

Is microsuction safe?

Yes. There can be some noise as the wax is suctioned away, but the treatment is safe and effective.

Does it hurt?

Not normally. It can feel a little strange, but it is fast and painless in the overwhelming majority of cases. People with very sensitive ears may feel mild discomfort.

How long does it take?

On average 5–10 minutes for examination and clearance of both ears.

Do I need to do anything beforehand?

It helps to use a few drops of olive oil or similar to soften the wax, unless you have a history of perforated eardrum. A perforated eardrum does NOT prevent microsuction. Ask your pharmacist or call us for advice.

How often will I need my ears cleared?

It varies: some people need it once in many years, others every few months. We can examine your ears and usually clear them at the same appointment.

What if no wax can be removed?

If no wax is removed, a £30 consultation fee applies.

How quickly can I be seen?
